...The main component of the sap is urushiol in the case of urushi, and the similar laccol in the case of Indian urushi. Resins similar to lacquer sap are also extracted from other species of the Anacardiaceae family, such as Annam urushi Gluta usita (Wall.) Ding Hon. These lacquer saps turn black and harden when exposed to air and oxidized, so they are used as paints and adhesives.
