Barrel - Barreru (English spelling) barrel

A customary unit of volume in the imperial system. The word comes from a barrel, a bulging barrel. The size varies depending on the country and the object being measured. It is not legally recognized in either the UK or the US. The unit used for oil is 1 barrel = 42 US gallons (about 159 liters), but internationally, barrels are not used, and kiloliters are used exclusively. In the UK, a barrel for oil is 36 British gallons (about 164 liters), and for alcohol it is 50 British gallons (about 227 liters).

In the United States, there are additional barrel sizes: cranberry barrel, 5,826 cubic inches (95.47 liters), fruit and vegetable barrel, 7,056 cubic inches (115.62 liters), liquid barrel, 31.5 US gallons (119.24 liters), cargo barrel, 5 cubic feet (141.6 liters), etc.

ヤード・ポンド法の体積の慣用単位。語源は胴の膨らんだ樽(たる)barrel。国により、また計る対象によって大きさは異なる。イギリスでもアメリカでも法律上の単位としては認めていない。「1バレル＝42アメリカガロン（約159リットル）」が石油用として通用しているが、国際的にはバレルは用いられず、もっぱらキロリットルが用いられている。イギリスの石油用バレルは36イギリスガロン（約164リットル）、アルコール用は50イギリスガロン（約227リットル）である。

　アメリカではさらに次のようなものがある。クランベリーバレルが5826立方インチ（95.47リットル）、果物・野菜用バレルが7056立方インチ（115.62リットル）、液体用バレルが31.5アメリカガロン（119.24リットル）、積み荷バレルが5立方フィート（141.6リットル）などとなっている。
