A Kabuki composer. There are five generations of him. [Hideo Furuido] First World(1739-94) was the eldest son of choreographer Ichiyama Shichijuro and the elder brother of the famous onnagata (female actor) Segawa Kikunojo III. He started out as an onnagata (female actor) named Segawa Otome, but in 1784 (Tenmei 4) he became a playwright, taking on the pen name Jōkō. As a playwright in residence for the Kikunojo troupe, he was mainly responsible for writing the lyrics for jōruri, and wrote works such as Tomimoto's Nasakezakariiro no Nakakumi. [Hideo Furuido] II(1757-1833) Kawatake Bunji, a disciple of the first Kawatake Shinshichi, became the playwright for Kikunojo III and took his name in 1801 (Kyowa 1). He was active as a leader of the Henge dance style during the Kasei period (1804-1830), and in his later years he played an important role in the theatrical world as an advisor to Kikunojo V and others. His representative works include "Kakubei" and "Sanja Matsuri". [Hideo Furuido] III(1806-81) After training as a comic storyteller, he became the apprentice of Tsuruya Nanboku 5 and became a Kabuki playwright. In 1850 (Kaei 3), he took on the name of Segawa Jyoko, which he had discontinued for a while. He made his pen name immortal with "Higashiyama Sakura Soshi (The Legend of the Sakura Gimin)" and "Yowanasake Ukina no Yokogushi (Kirare Yosa)", but in his later years he was overshadowed by his rival Kawatake Mokuami and ended up in obscurity. The name was passed down to four generations (1857-1938) and five generations (1888-1957).
