A general term for fish in the Gobiesocidae family of the order Gobiesocidae. Most Gobiesocidae are small fish less than 10 cm long, and live in shallow coastal waters and tide pools. There are few of them, and they are hard to see because they hide under stones or among seaweed. Their bodies have no scales, and they attach to objects using suckers formed by the combination of their left and right pelvic fins and folds of skin. These suckers are larger and have stronger adhesive power than those of gobies. They are distributed from temperate to tropical regions around the world, and about 100 species are known. Some of them are large, reaching a body length of 30 cm, some live symbiotically with sea urchins and eat their tube feet, and some live in freshwater away from the sea.
