An ancient culture of Mesopotamia. Named after the Ubaid ruins in southern Iraq. It precedes the Uruk culture, and was the first widespread, unified culture in Mesopotamia between 4500 and 3500 BCE. Temple architecture with a platform made of sun-dried bricks, the use of the wheel, and in some places seals and copperware appeared, and the beginnings of the formation of city-states can be seen.

メソポタミアの古代文化。イラク南部のウバイド遺跡にちなむ。ウルク文化に先行し，前4500年―前3500年頃メソポタミアに広範な統一的様式文化が初めて成立する。日干煉瓦を使った基壇を持つ神殿建築や車輪の使用，また一部では印章，銅器が登場し，都市国家形成の萌芽がみられる。
