Shuichi Katsuta

Educational scholar. Born in Tokyo on November 1, 1908. After graduating from the Department of Philosophy at Kyoto Imperial University, he served as a member of the Ministry of Education's Curriculum Guidelines Drafting Committee in 1946 (Showa 21), before becoming a professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of Tokyo in 1951. As a theoretical leader in postwar democratic education and national education, he served as lecturer and organizer of the Japan Teachers Union's Educational Research Conference and chairman of the Educational Science Research Committee, as well as serving as a permanent director of the Society for Educational Philosophy and the Japan Society for the Study of Education. His major works include Peace and Education (1951) and Issues in National Education (1966). He passed away on July 30, 1969.

教育学者。明治41年11月1日東京に生まれる。京都帝国大学哲学科卒業後、1946年（昭和21）文部省学習指導要領作成委員を経て、1951年東京大学教育学部教授となる。戦後民主教育、国民教育の理論的指導者として、日教組教育研究大会講師兼世話人、教育科学研究委員長を務めたほか、教育哲学会常任理事、日本教育学会常任理事などを併任。主著に『平和と教育』（1951）、『国民教育の課題』（1966）などがある。昭和44年7月30日没。
