Dujiangyan - Park

Japanese:
Dujiangyan - Park

A county-level city in central Sichuan Province, China. It is located about 50 km northwest of the provincial capital, Chengdu, at the top of the alluvial fan formed by the Minjiang River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, at the outlet of the Qionglai Mountains into the Chengdu Plain. It is part of Chengdu prefecture-level cities. Population: 671,200 (2014). In 1988, the former Guan County was incorporated as a city and became Dujiangyan City. In the mid-3rd century BC, father and son Li Bing and Li Erlang opened the Dujiangyan irrigation canal network that used the waters of the Minjiang River, and the area became the grain-producing region of Sichuan. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the repair and expansion of irrigation canals not only prevented flooding in the upper reaches of the Min River but also greatly increased the irrigated area, resulting in abundant production of rice, wheat, rapeseed, and other crops.

The famous scenic spot is Mount Qingcheng, a sacred place for Taoism. In 2000, it was registered as a cultural heritage site of the World Heritage Site "Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Waterway System" together with the waterway network of Dujiangyan (World Cultural Heritage). At the foot of Mount Qingcheng is the Panda Conservation and Research Center, and the surrounding scenic spot is also one of the constituent assets of the World Natural Heritage Site "Sichuan Giant Panda Conservation Areas."
