Minnesang (English spelling)

Japanese: ミンネザング（英語表記）Minnesang

The name of love songs that developed in Germany in the second half of the 12th century along with the courtly knightly culture. Along with courtly epics, it is the literature of the knightly class that represents medieval Germany. The main theme was romantic service to women, and most of the songs were "High Minne" (Hohe Minne) (→ courtly love) for women of high status, and "Low Minne" (Niedere Minne) for women of low status. None of the love songs were based on personal experience. The heyday was around 1180-1220, but its influence could be seen until around the 14th century. The poets were called Minnesingers.

12世紀後半ドイツで宮廷的騎士文化とともに発展した恋愛歌の名称。宮廷叙事詩と並んで中世ドイツを代表する騎士階級の文学。テーマは主として婦人に対する恋愛奉仕，多くは身分の高い女性に対する「高きミンネ (愛) 」 Hohe Minne (→宮廷風恋愛 ) で，女性の身分が低い場合は「低きミンネ」 Niedere Minneと呼ばれた。いずれも自己の体験に基づいた恋愛歌ではない。最盛期はほぼ 1180～1220年頃であるが，その影響は 14世紀頃までみられた。詩人はミンネジンガーと呼ばれた。
