The eaves of the palace - Konro no Miura

Japanese:
The eaves of the palace - Konro no Miura
Since the Heian period, divination has been practiced at the Imperial Court. In the event of natural disasters such as drought or heavy rain, or strange occurrences at the Imperial Court or shrines and temples, the Jingikan's tortoise divination and the Onmyoryo's divination (using a shikiban) were performed in the corridor of the Shishinden Hall of the Imperial Palace. In particular, the determination of the Yuki and Suki provinces for the once-in-a-lifetime Daijosai ceremony was given great importance, and the Minister would issue an imperial decree to summon officials from the Jingikan to perform tortoise divination in the corridor. The current corridor of the Kyoto Imperial Palace is an open corridor that stretches from under the east staircase of the Shishinden Hall to the Gyoden Hall, and a square flat stone set into the plaster floor is the site where tortoise divination was performed.
