1263‐1323 A Zen master from the Yuan Dynasty in China. His surname was Sunshi, and Nakamine was his pen name. He is also known simply as Nakamine. He was from Qiantang, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. He became a monk under Gao Feng (1238-95), attained enlightenment after seeing a flowing spring, and inherited the Dharma from Gao Feng. He had no fixed residence and called himself Genju, and was known by monks and laypeople as the Ancient Buddha of Jiangnan. Renzong and Yingzong of the Yuan Dynasty became his followers. After his death, he was given the posthumous titles of Zen Master Zhijue and Master Fu'o Kokushi. His books include Genjuan Seiki and Ikka Goyo, and his collections of sayings include Nakamine Goroku and Nakamine Osho Miscellany (compiled and published in Japan).
