This hot spring is part of the Kirishima Onsenkyo hot spring resort in Makizono Town, Aira County, northeastern Kagoshima Prefecture. It is an alum spring, sulfurous spring, 40-60°C. It is located at the foot of Mt. Karakuni, the highest peak in the Kirishima mountain range. It has long been popular as a therapeutic hot spring resort, and in recent years has also been used by climbers of Mt. Karakuni and visitors on health resorts. There is only one inn, but the hot spring waterfall and hot spring pool are also available. A bus runs from Kirishima-Jingu Station on the Nippo Main Line via Hayashida Onsen. 鹿児島県北東部,姶良(あいら)郡牧園町の霧島温泉郷に含まれる温泉。ミョウバン泉,硫黄泉,40~60℃。霧島連山の最高峰韓国(からくに)岳山麓にある。古くから湯治場として親しまれ,近年は韓国岳への登山客や保養客にも利用されている。旅館は1軒だけであるが,湯滝や温泉プールなどもある。日豊本線霧島神宮駅から林田温泉経由でバスが通じる。【榊原 貴士】
