〘 noun 〙 (A word derived from the word "to put on" and likening the shoulder to a carriage) 1. To carry someone on one's shoulder or across one's neck. In the olden days, it was also the case that one simply sat on one shoulder. Shoulder and neck. Katakoma or katakuma . Katatsugi. *Torahirohon Kyogen: Koto Nushi-nin ( late Muromachi period - early modern period) "Next time, let's ride on the shoulders. 〘名〙 (「乗せる」ことから、肩を車に見たてた語)① 人を肩に乗せたり、首にまたがらせたりして、かつぐこと。古くは、片方の肩に腰かけさせるだけの場合もいった。肩首。肩駒(かたこま・かたくま)。肩継(かたつぎ)。※虎寛本狂言・子盗人(室町末‐近世初)「今度は、肩車に乗てすかしませう。ハア、いとし殿御を肩に乗せて、のせて乗せて、御所へ参らう」② 江戸時代、女子の帯解(おびとき)の異称。盛装した七歳の女子を、出入りの仕事師などが肩に乗せて、氏神様などにお参りしたところからいう。多く俗語として用いられた。※俳諧・夜半亭発句帖(1755)「髪置や苧のしだり尾の肩車」③ 柔道の投げわざの一つ。相手を引き寄せ、腰をかがめながら一方の手を相手の両またの間に深くさし入れ、頭を相手のわきの下から外へ出し、相手のからだをかつぎあげ、自分の頭の上を越して、投げ落とすもの。④ 人形浄瑠璃の人形の肩の部分につけて、腕の動きを滑らかにするための円形の板。〔楽屋図会拾遺(1802)〕
