Kisoji Katada - Cleaning Katada

Japanese: 堅田喜惣治 - かただきそうじ

Head of the Katada family of Nagauta musicians. The first and second generations were written as Kisoji. (1) First Generation: Years of birth and death unknown. Said to be a disciple of Katada Shinjuro, a master of the drumming art, he performed as a large drummer in kabuki plays at the Morita-za and Nakamura-za in Edo from the late 18th century to the early 19th century (Tenmei to Bunsei era). (2) Second Generation: Years of birth and death unknown. Son of the first generation. Apparently had no connection to theater. (3) Third Generation (1893-1974, Meiji 26-Showa 49): Second son of the seventh generation Mochizuki Tazaemon. Small drum player. Real name Abe Kyuzo. Succeeded the name Kisoji in 1915.

長唄囃子方堅田家の家元。初世，2世は喜総治と表記。(1)初世　生没年不詳。鼓方の名手堅田新十郎の門弟といわれ，18世紀後半から19世紀初め(天明～文政期)にかけて大鼓打ちとして江戸の森田座，中村座などの歌舞伎に出演。(2)2世　生没年不詳。初世の子。芝居とは無関係であったらしい。(3)3世(1893‐1974∥明治26‐昭和49)　7世望月太左衛門の次男。小鼓方。本名安倍久蔵。1915年，喜惣治を襲名。
