Bogdo Gegen (English spelling)

Japanese: ボグドゲゲン（英語表記）Bogdo Gegen

The most important living Buddha in Outer Mongolia and the common name of the Yellow Hat (Gelu) lama. Bogdogeghen means "Holy Light" in Mongolian. His official title is Rje btsun dam pa khu tug tu (The Brahmin Danbahu Tutu). Bogdogeghen is said to be the incarnation of the Tibetan monk Tāranātha. The first Bogdogeghen (1635-1723) was born as the son of Toshet Khan, a great lord of the Khalkha tribe in Outer Mongolia. When Outer Mongolia was submitted to the Qing Dynasty in 1691 (the 30th year of the Kangxi era), he actively cooperated with the Qing Dynasty and became highly valued by the Qing Dynasty.

外モンゴリアの最高の活仏で黄帽派(ゲルー派)ラマ教主の通称。ボグドゲゲンとはモンゴル語で〈聖光明者〉の意。正式の称号はジェブツンダンバ･フトクトRje btsun dam pa khu tug tu(哲布尊丹巴呼図克図)。ボグドゲゲンはチベット僧ターラナータTāranāthaの化身とされる。初代ボグドゲゲン(1635‐1723)は外モンゴリアのハルハ族の大領侯トシエト･ハーンの子として生まれ，1691年(康熙30)外モンゴリアが清朝に服属した際，清朝のために積極的に協力したことから清朝に重んじられるようになった。
