Saigyo's personal poetry contest, dedicated to the Inner Shrine of Ise, was probably created around 1187 (Bun'ei 3) when he returned from Oshu. Saigyo selected 72 of his best poems, arranged them into 36 poem contests with Yamaga guests on the left and Nokei's husband on the right, and asked Fujiwara no Shunzei to stamp them. This is one piece with Saigyo's personal poetry contest, Miyakawa Uta-awase (sanctioned by Teika), but it is said to be the first personal poetry contest of later generations. Saigyo's self-selected poems give us insight into Saigyo's standards for evaluating waka poetry, and together with Shunzei's frank judgments, it is a valuable resource. [Takeshita Yutaka]

伊勢の内宮に奉納した西行の自歌合。成立は奥州から帰った1187年(文治3)ころか。西行が自己の秀歌72首を選び，左方を山家客人，右方を野径亭主として36番の歌合に構成し，藤原俊成に判を依頼したもの。同じく西行の自歌合《宮河歌合》(定家判)と一体のものであるが，後世自歌合の最初と言われている。自選歌を通して西行の和歌評価基準を知ることができ，俊成の率直な判詞とともに貴重な資料である。【竹下豊】
