Mykenai (English spelling)

Japanese: ミュケナイ（英語表記）Mykēnai

An important archaeological site from the Mycenaean civilization in the Argos region of the northeastern Peloponnese Peninsula on the Greek mainland. It is also called Mycenae, and in modern Greek it is pronounced Mykine. After modern Greece gained independence, the Athenian Archaeological Society was founded in 1837, and the first excavation at Mycenae was attempted in 1841 by one of the society's executives as part of the society's project. Then, in 1874, Schliemann, who had unearthed "Priam's Treasure" at Troy the previous year, excavated 34 sites on the Acropolis.

ギリシア本土，ペロポネソス半島北東部のアルゴリス地方にあるミュケナイ文明期の重要遺跡。ミケーネとも呼びならわされ，現代ギリシア語の発音ではミキーネ。近代ギリシアの独立後，1837年にアテネ考古学協会が設立され，41年に協会の一幹部が同協会の事業として試みたのがミュケナイ発掘の最初である。次いで74年に，前年トロイアにおいて〈プリアモスの財宝〉を掘り当てていたシュリーマンがアクロポリスにおいて34ヵ所の試掘を行った。
