1871-1922 (Meiji 4-Taisho 11) A collaborator of the Chinese revolutionary movement. A native of Arao, Kumamoto Prefecture. Also written as Torazo, his legal name was Torazo. His pen name was Hakuroan Toten. He is also known by the nickname Miyazaki Toten. His father was Chozo, a local samurai, his mother was Saki, his eldest brother was Hachiro, and he also had two older brothers, Tamizo and Yazo. Torazo grew up in a family that hated the authorities and supported civil rights, calling himself a "born liberal and civil rights advocate," but later became a strong supporter of the Chinese revolution. His frequent transfers to schools in his youth, including Oe Gijuku and Tokyo Senmon Gakko, and his conversion and abandonment of Christianity, were expressions of his hatred of hypocrisy and his purity in wanting to be true to his own feelings.
