Miyazaki Torazou

Japanese: 宮崎虎蔵 - みやざきとらぞう

A collaborator of the Chinese revolutionary movement. A native of Arao, Kumamoto Prefecture. Also written as Torazo, his legal name was Torazo. His pen name was Hakuroan Toten. He is also known by the nickname Miyazaki Toten. His father was Chozo, a local samurai, his mother was Saki, his eldest brother was Hachiro, and he also had two older brothers, Tamizo and Yazo. Torazo grew up in a family that hated the authorities and supported civil rights, calling himself a "born liberal and civil rights advocate," but later became a strong supporter of the Chinese revolution. His frequent transfers to schools in his youth, including Oe Gijuku and Tokyo Senmon Gakko, and his conversion and abandonment of Christianity, were expressions of his hatred of hypocrisy and his purity in wanting to be true to his own feelings.

中国革命運動の協力者。熊本県荒尾の人。寅蔵とも記されるが，戸籍名は虎蔵。号は白浪庵滔天（とうてん）。宮崎滔天の呼称でも知られる。父は郷士の長蔵，母は佐喜，長兄は八郎，ほかに民蔵･弥蔵の兄がいる。虎蔵は官憲ぎらい民権びいきの家にそだち，〈先天的自由民権家〉と自称したが，のち中国革命のよき援助者となった。青少年期における大江義塾，東京専門学校等の頻々たる転校，キリスト教への入信と棄教は，その偽善への嫌悪と自己の心情に忠実たらんとする純粋さの発露である。
