Ibrahim (Aghlab) - Ibrahim

...Its capital was Kairawan. Its origins date back to when Ibrāhim b. al-Aghlab (757-812), the son of the Khorasan-born soldier Aghlab, gained independence while acknowledging the suzerainty of the Abbasid dynasty. Although the country experienced internal instability, with rebellions by the Kharijites, resistance by Arab soldiers, and criticism of the legal scholars who governed it, it was important in that it brought Islamic culture to Europe with the conquest of Sicily (completed in 878), and that the dominance of Maliki legal scholars allowed Maliki Sunni Islam to penetrate the Maghreb.
