Oribe no Tsukasa

Japanese: 織部司 - おりべのつかさ
Oribe no Tsukasa

Under the ryo system, this office was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance and was responsible for a wide range of spinning and dyeing work. They wove Nishiki, Aya, Tsumugi, Ra, and other fabrics, and also dyed threads of various colors. The staff included one Kami, one Suke, one Sakan, four Ayatorishi, and eight Ayatorisho. In the Taiho Code, there were four "Ayatori". With the introduction and development of new weaving techniques, Ayatorishi were dispatched to various regions in 711 (4th year of Wadou) to provide technical guidance. The separate records of the ancient records in the Shikiin Code in the "Ryo no Shuge" list the Shinabe (divisions) such as Nishiki Aya Weaving Department, Kimono Department, Hizome Department, and Aizome Department.
