Tamizo Miyazaki

A social activist of the Meiji and Taisho periods who advocated equal distribution of land as a fundamental right of all humankind. His pen name was Junko. He was the sixth son of a local samurai from Arao Village, Tamana County, Higo Province (Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture). In 1885, he studied at the Buddhist Academy of Letters under Nakae Chomin, a friend and teacher of his late brother Hachiro, but fell ill and returned home. Seeing the poverty of tenant farmers, he resolved to restore human rights to land, and made it his life's mission. In February 1907, he traveled to the United States, and until the fall of 1908, he traveled to the United States, Britain, and France, exchanging views with social activists. In April 1900, he founded the Land Restoration Association in Tokyo and campaigned around the country. After the movement was suppressed in the wake of the High Treason Incident (1911), he supported his brother Toten's Chinese revolutionary movement, and pinned his hopes on Sun Yat-sen's equal land rights policy. <Works> "Equal Share of Land - The Great Right of Mankind"

土地の均等配分を人類の基本権として主張した明治大正期の社会運動家。号は巡耕。肥後国玉名郡荒尾村(熊本県荒尾市)の郷士の6男。明治18(1885)年亡兄八郎の師友中江兆民の仏学塾に学ぶが病を得て帰郷,小作農の貧窮を見て土地に対する人間の権利を回復することを決意,一生の使命とする。30年2月渡米,33年秋まで米,英,フランスの各国を巡り,社会運動家と意見交換,35年4月東京で土地復権同志会を設立し全国を遊説した。大逆事件(1911)による運動弾圧後は弟滔天の中国革命運動を支援し,孫文の平均地権政策に望みを託した。<著作>『土地均享・人類の大権』
