Miyakubo [town] - Miyakubo

Japanese: 宮窪[町] - みやくぼ

A former town in Ochi County in northern Ehime Prefecture. It includes the eastern part of Oshima Island and Shisaka Island in the Geiyo Islands. It produces hanakouwa stone and is a major producer of mandarin oranges. It is known for the work of brewers, and fishing such as pole-and-line fishing is also practiced. The remains of Noshima Castle (historic site) of the Murakami Navy are located here. A ferry boat connects the town with Imabari City, and in 1988 the Hakata-Oshima Bridge on the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge's Onomichi-Imabari route (West Seto Expressway) was opened between the town and Hakata Island. In January 2005, the town was incorporated into Imabari City along with the villages of Tamagawa, Namikata, Onishi, Kikuma, Yoshiumi, Hakata, Kamiura, Omishima, Sekimae, and Asakura in Ochi County. 18.38 ^km2 . 3,735 people (2003).
