...Masterpieces such as Andrzej Wajda's (1926- ) Resistance Trilogy, Generation (1954), The Sewer (1956), and Ashes and Diamonds (1958), Andrzej Munk's (1921-61) Eroica (1957), and Kawalerowicz's The True End of War (1956) and The Nun Joanna (1961) amazed the world. Furthermore, in the 1960s, Roman Polanski (1933- ) with Knife in the Water (1961), Jerzy Skolimowski (1938- ) with Victory Without a Fight (1965), and Krzysztof Zannusi (1939- ) with The Structure of the Crystal (1969) were called "moral anxiety activists" for depicting the "distorted morals" of modern society. However, Polanski continued to work in England and America, and Skolimowski in Western Europe, and it is said that they are no longer Polish writers.
