Earwax (ear wax) - mimiaka (English spelling) cerumen

Japanese: 耳あか(耳垢) - みみあか（英語表記）cerumen

It is also called "jikou." Foreign matter that naturally occurs in the ear canal. Its components include sloughed epithelium that comes out of the ear canal, fallen hair, pebbles and debris from the outside world, and the largest part is a mixture of fats and proteins secreted from the earwax gland. Earwax glands are a type of sweat gland, but they are called apocrine glands, and the cells swell up like cupcakes, and when their membranes break, the contents of the cells spill out, so they contain a lot of fat and protein.

〈じこう〉ともいう。外耳道の中に自然に発生してくる異物。その成分は，外耳道から出てくる剝脱（はくだつ）した上皮，抜けた毛，外界から入った小石，ごみなどのほか，いちばん大きな部分を占めるのは，耳垢腺から分泌される脂肪，タンパク質などの混合物である。耳垢腺は汗腺の一種ではあるが，アポクリン腺といって，細胞がカップケーキ状にふくれ上がり，その膜が破れて細胞の内容物がとび出てくるので，脂肪，タンパク質を多く含んでいる。
