...The species Cytisus, which has red spots on the wing petals, is also commonly cultivated. The genus Cytisus is a genus of more than several dozen species that have differentiated mainly in Europe. They are valued as garden plants in Europe and the United States, and many horticultural varieties have been developed through breeding and selection. Young branches and leaves contain sparteine, which has a cardiac stimulant effect, and although it is poisonous, it is boiled and used as an antipyretic.
