Beeswax (English spelling) beewax

Japanese: 蜜蠟 - みつろう（英語表記）beewax

A substance secreted from the wax glands in the abdomen of worker bees and is the main component of honeycombs. It is mainly supplied from beekeeping beehives as a by-product of honey, and 1 kg of wax is collected from 8 kg of cells. It is also extracted from bees in East India, South America, and Africa, but its properties vary slightly depending on the place of origin. The main components are esters of myrisyl palmitate (C ₁₅ H ₃₁ COOC ₃₀ H _{61 )} , myrisyl cerotenate (C ₂₅ H ₅₁ COOC ₃₀ H _{61 )} , myrisyl hypogaeinate, and ceyl hydroxypalmitate, and also contain free fatty acids (24-33 carbon atoms) and hydrocarbons (25-30 carbon atoms).

ミツバチの働きバチの腹部の蠟腺から分泌され，ミツバチの巣の主成分となっている物質。はちみつの副産物として養蜂のミツバチの巣から主として供給され，巣房8kgから1kgの蠟が採集される。東インド，南アメリカ，アフリカ産のハチからも採れるが，産地によって性状が若干異なる。主成分は，パルミチン酸ミリシルC₁₅H₃₁COOC₃₀H₆₁，セロチン酸ミリシルC₂₅H₅₁COOC₃₀H₆₁，ヒポゲイン酸ミリシル，ヒドロキシパルミチン酸セシルなどのエステルで，そのほか遊離脂肪酸(炭素数24～33)，炭化水素(炭素数25～30)を含む。
