Yumeno Kyusaku - Yumeno Kyusaku

Japanese:
Yumeno Kyusaku - Yumeno Kyusaku
Born: January 4, 1889 in Fukuoka
[Died] March 11, 1936. Fukuoka novelist. Real name Sugiyama Yasumichi. He spent his childhood surrounded by his grandfather, who was fond of Noh and Yokyoku, and was rebellious and conflicted against his father, Sugiyama Shigemaru, who was the mastermind behind the Genyosha movement. After graduating from Shuyukan, a Fukuoka prefectural junior high school, he volunteered to join the First Infantry Regiment of the Imperial Guard, but was discharged the following year in 1909 and went on to Keio University. However, he later withdrew from school at his father's command and was brought back to a farm in Fukuoka, where he soon became a monk and lived a life of training as a Zen monk, and also worked as a Noh professor and a newspaper reporter. In 1947, he published the children's story "Shiragakozo" under the pen name Sugiyama Moen, and in 1951, he submitted "Ayakashi no Tsuzumi" to the creative detective novel contest for "Shin Seinen" and won second place. From then on, he used the pen name Yumeno Kyusaku and published his masterpiece Dogura Magura in 1935. It was a unique work that shocked people with its philosophical theme of "existential murder" in the form of a detective novel written by a madman. He also explored the world of undifferentiated consciousness in Oshie no Kiseki (The Miracle of the Pressed Picture) (1929) and Inugami Hakase (Dr. Inugami) (31), but there were also works such as Koori no Hate (The Edge of Ice) and Ankoku Koushi (The Dark Prince) (33) that showed an aspiration towards universality and breadth. He collapsed while serving customers and passed away at the age of 47.
