Roman pretender to the throne (383-388). He was of poor Spanish descent, and was pushed by the British legions to claim the throne. He overthrew Gratian, and ruled Britain, Gaul, and Spain. He forced Theodosius I of the East to recognize him as emperor, supported Catholicism, and suppressed heresy. In 387, he suddenly invaded Italy, and pursued Valentinian II, forcing him to flee to Thessalonica. As a result, he started a war with Theodosius I in 388, and was defeated by him and executed.

[died] August 13, 662, Latska Byzantine theologian, saint, especially known as the Confessor. After serving the Emperor Heraclius, he entered a monastery. Because of his fierce opposition to Monotheism, he was tortured and exiled to Latska, where he died. His teachings were based on the mystical tradition of the Eastern Church.

Died May 31, 455. Western Roman Emperor (reigned 455). After the assassination of Valentinian III, he ascended to the throne and forced Valentinian's wife Eudosia to marry him, but was killed by the Roman people during an attack by the Vandals, said to have been led by Eudosia.

Roman pretender to the throne. He pretended to be emperor in Spain (409-411) and continued to rebel against the Western Roman Empire, but was defeated and executed by Honorius.
