EXXON donor solvent

…The SRC (solvent refined coal) process was originally intended to remove ash from coal and produce solvent refined coal (solid), but by making the reaction conditions somewhat stricter, it was improved to produce liquefied oil equivalent to crude oil. The EDS (Exxon donor solvent) process and the solvolysis process are both similar in principle to the SRC process, but the solvolysis process uses petroleum-based asphalt as a solvent and is a technology conceived in Japan.

In this method, coal is first gasified and converted into synthetic gas consisting of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and then a reaction is carried out over a catalyst to synthesize hydrocarbon oil.
