A rope that limits sacred places such as shrines and prevents the intrusion of impurities. It is also written as Shimenawa or Shichigosannawa. In the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, it is written as "Shirikumenawa" and "Shirikuhenawa." The word shime is already used in poems from the Manyoshu to mean occupying and isolating a certain area, and in addition to "shikoroshi," it is written as "in" (seal) and "rope." Shime is a sign of occupation (occupation), and the presence of the sign (shime) indicates the state of occupation. Shimenawa stretched over sacred areas is, so to speak, a sign that marks the god's "barrier occupying area." Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
