The Battle of Ezhou

…In the Sui dynasty, it was Jiangxia County, in the Tang dynasty, it was the garrison of the Wuchang Army, in the Five Dynasties and Song dynasties, it was Ezhou, in the Yuan dynasty, it was Wuchang Road, in the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was the administrative center of Wuchang Prefecture, and it was the capital of Huguang Province in the Ming dynasty and Hubei Province in the Qing dynasty. This area was a strategic point in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and a center of water transportation, so it has been a place of constant struggle between the northern and southern forces since ancient times. In particular, in 1259 (Kaikei 1) at the end of the Song dynasty, Kublai Khan of Mongolia surrounded this area and tried to destroy the Song dynasty in one fell swoop in the Battle of Ezhou. In modern times, in 1853 (Xianfeng 3), a fierce battle was fought between the Qing army and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom army, and Wuchang was occupied by the Taiping army. …
