Mizuki Tatsunosuke - Mizuki Tatsunosuke

Kabuki actor. The first generation (1673-1745) was famous. Born in Osaka, he was the son of the kabuki actor Saito Shinpachi. He was the nephew of the famous actor Yamatoya Jinbei, and later became his son-in-law. He went on to play the names Yamatoya Ushimatsu and Tsurukawa Tatsunosuke, before changing his name to Mizuki. He went from being a young man to a young woman. He gained a reputation for his roles as the bathhouse girl Arima no Oto in "Daughter's Revenge" (1691) and "Mizuki Tatsunosuke's Farewell Performance" (1695), and became one of the four great female actors. He gained fame in the three capitals, especially for his dancing, performing the spear dance, cat manners, and "Nanabake," which could be said to be the beginning of the transformation dance. However, he retired at the age of 31. Mizuki hats were started by him.

歌舞伎(かぶき)俳優。初世（1673―1745）が著名。大坂生まれで、歌舞伎の半道方斉藤新八の子。名優大和(やまと)屋甚兵衛の甥(おい)で、のち女婿(じょせい)となった。大和屋牛松、鶴川(つるかわ)辰之助の名を経て水木と改名。若衆方から若女方となる。『娘親の敵討』（1691）、『水木辰之助餞振舞(たちふるまい)』（1695）の湯女(ゆな)有馬のお藤で評判をとり、女方四天王の一人となる。槍踊(やりおどり)、猫の所作や、変化(へんげ)舞踊の初めともいえる『七化(ななばけ)』を上演するなど、とくに舞踊で三都に名声を得た。しかし31歳で引退した。水木帽子は彼が始めたもの。
