Kabuki actor. The first generation (1673-1745) was famous. Born in Osaka, he was the son of the kabuki actor Saito Shinpachi. He was the nephew of the famous actor Yamatoya Jinbei, and later became his son-in-law. He went on to play the names Yamatoya Ushimatsu and Tsurukawa Tatsunosuke, before changing his name to Mizuki. He went from being a young man to a young woman. He gained a reputation for his roles as the bathhouse girl Arima no Oto in "Daughter's Revenge" (1691) and "Mizuki Tatsunosuke's Farewell Performance" (1695), and became one of the four great female actors. He gained fame in the three capitals, especially for his dancing, performing the spear dance, cat manners, and "Nanabake," which could be said to be the beginning of the transformation dance. However, he retired at the age of 31. Mizuki hats were started by him. [Kisaragi Aoko] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
