An old town in Kashima County facing Nanao Bay in northern Ishikawa Prefecture. Rice farming is popular in the lowlands, but the town has long been famous for its joinery manufacturing, which developed as a side business. It also has a textile industry. It is connected to Noto by rail. In October 2004, it merged with Nanao City, Kashima County's Nakajima Town, and Notojima Town to form Nanao City. 28.40 km2 . 6,033 people (2003).
