Misao-no-ki - Misao-no-ki

Japanese: ミサオノキ - みさおのき
Misao-no-ki - Misao-no-ki
A small tree of the Rubiaceae family that grows in evergreen forests. It was named by Makino Tomitaro, and is said to have been named to represent the strength of a rock, as it remains green even when growing among rocks. It grows 5-10m tall, with glossy evergreen, oblong, 8-16cm long, and often with one of the opposite leaves degenerating to a linear shape. The inflorescence emerges from the axil of this linear leaf and branches out well. It blooms in early May. The calyx tube is about 3mm long, almost the same length as the ovary. The corolla is yellow, with 4-5 lobes that curl back. The ovary has two chambers, each of which contains several ovules.
