A relatively small warship equipped with anti-ship missiles. In 1967, the Israeli destroyer Eilath was sunk by three anti-ship missiles fired from a missile boat of the Arab League (now Egypt) (Eilat Incident). This incident, in which a warship was sunk by an anti-ship missile, made the navies of various countries realize the effectiveness of anti-ship missiles and missile boats, and missile boats began to be planned and built in various countries. Missile boats were created in the 1960s, but the early ones were merely equipped with missiles instead of the torpedoes of torpedo boats.
