Iblis (English spelling)

...The only one who could not resist the jinn was Solomon, and so his name is sometimes used to ward off evil. The jinn are spirits who share the same living space as humans, who love to play pranks, and who sometimes even bring death to humans. The general public views the jinn as being particularly fearful, as they believe that their leader is Iblis (one of the Satans). A person possessed by the jinn is called majnūn, and the term later came to be used exclusively to mean a madman, but the characteristics of the jinn vary depending on the type of jinn possessed.
