Maruyama Park

Japanese: 円山公園 - まるやまこうえん

This park is located at the foot of Mount Higashiyama in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. It covers an area of approximately 86,000 square meters and is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. It borders Chion-in Temple to the north, Yasaka Shrine to the west, and Kodaiji Temple to the south. It is the oldest park in the city, having been opened in 1886 (Meiji 19) on the site of a temple that was demolished after the Meiji Restoration. It also has a stroll-style pond garden and an outdoor music hall, and is a popular place of relaxation for local residents, with many visitors coming all year round. There are many cherry trees, and it is known for the "Gion Night Cherry Blossoms," and the weeping cherry tree (the current tree is the second generation) is particularly famous.

京都市東山区の東山山麓(さんろく)にある公園。面積約8万6000平方メートル。国指定名勝。北は知恩院(ちおんいん)、西は八坂(やさか)神社、南は高台寺(こうだいじ)の境内に接する。明治維新後に取り壊された寺社跡に、1886年（明治19）開設された市内でもっとも古い公園。池泉回遊式庭園や野外音楽堂もあり、市民の憩いの場所として四時訪れる者が多い。桜が多く、「祇園の夜桜(ぎおんのよざくら)」で知られ、とくに枝垂桜(しだれざくら)（現在の木は2代目）は有名。
