Nobuaki Matsudaira - Nobuaki Matsudaira

Japanese: 松平信明 - まつだいらのぶあきら
Nobuaki Matsudaira - Nobuaki Matsudaira

A feudal lord in the late Edo period. Son of Nobuya. Childhood name Harunojo. In 1770 (Meiwa 7), he succeeded to the family headship and became the lord of Mikawa Yoshida domain with 70,000 koku of rice, and in 1777 (An'ei 6), he was appointed as Izu no Kami. In 1784 (Tenmei 4), he became a sojaban (court attendant), and eventually gained the trust of Matsudaira Sadanobu, the chief senior councilor, and was promoted to chamberlain in February 1888. He was then promoted to senior councilor in April, and played an active role in the Kansei reforms that Sadanobu implemented. After Sadanobu retired in 1793 (Kansei 5), he became the chief senior councilor and continued the reformist political line, becoming a central figure in the so-called "Kansei Remaining Elders." He resigned from his position as a senior councilor in 1803 (Kyowa 3), but became a senior councilor again in 1806 (Bunka 3), and demonstrated his ability as the head of the shogunate government until his death on August 29, 1817 (Bunka 14). He was known as "Little Izu" because he was the seventh generation descendant of Matsudaira Izu no Kami Nobutsuna, who was known as "Chiei Izu."
