Baba was a place where samurai would train their horses, and it was often found in place names and was also frequently used as family names. The main ones are as follows: (1) The Owari Kuni no Miyatsuko lineage Since the mid-Heian period, the position of general inspector of the Atsuta Shrine in Owari was hereditary. (2) The Seiwa Genji The Settsu Genji's Minamoto no Nakamasa, the great-grandson of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, took the name Baba. Nakamasa was a Junior Fifth Rank Upper Grade and Hyogo no Kami, and was the father of Minamoto no Yorimasa, who raised an army to overthrow the Taira clan. The Baba clan was a vassal of the Takeda clan of Kai, and this lineage is said to belong to the Baba clan. However, there is also a Baba clan within the Takeda clan. It is also a branch of the Seiwa Genji, but is a lineage of Yoshimitsu (the son of Yoriyoshi and the younger brother of Yoshiie). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
