A female painter and educator active during the late Edo and Meiji periods. Founder of Atsumi Girls' School (Atsumi Gakuen). Born in Kizumura, Nishinari County, Settsu Province (Nishinari Ward, Osaka City). Her name was Tatsuno. Her father, Shigeyoshi, ran a temple school. Her mother was Ikuno. At the age of 12, she studied calligraphy under Ishigaki Tozan, and later studied painting under Teino Sozan. In 1856 (Ansei 3), she traveled to Kyoto to study poetry and calligraphy under Miyahara Setsun, a disciple of Rai Sanyo, and painting under Maruyama Oryu, Nakajima Raisho, and Hine Taizan. In 1862, she helped her father with his private school in Nakanoshima, Osaka, and in 1866 (Keio 2), she opened a private school in Kyoto. In 1870 (Meiji 3), she moved to Tokyo, where she taught ladies-in-waiting at the Imperial Court. In 1872, she was summoned to the Imperial Court and wrote calligraphy in front of Empress Shōken. In 1875, she opened Atsumi Girls' School in Sarugaku-cho, Kanda, Tokyo. In 1948, he performed calligraphy in front of the Emperor at the Ueno Art Association. His representative work is "Flowers of the Four Seasons" (owned by Atomi Gakuen).

幕末明治期に活躍した女性画家,教育者。跡見女学校(跡見学園)の創始者。摂津国西成郡木津村(大阪市西成区)生まれ。名は竜野。父重敬は寺子屋を営む。母は幾野。12歳のとき石垣東山に書を学び,その後禎野楚山について画を学ぶ。安政3(1856)年京都に遊学し,詩文,書法を頼山陽門下の宮原節庵に,画を円山応立,中島来章,日根対山に学ぶ。5年には大坂中之島の父の私塾を助け,慶応2(1866)年京都に私塾を開く。明治3(1870)年東京に移住。宮中の女官教育に当たる。5年には宮中に召され昭憲皇太后の御前で揮毫した。8年,東京神田猿楽町に跡見女学校を開く。23年上野美術会にて御前揮毫する。代表作に「四季花卉図」(跡見学園蔵)がある。
