A town in the southern part of Tokunoshima, Oshima District, Kagoshima Prefecture. The town is mainly involved in sugarcane cultivation, and has a large sugar factory, the Tokunoshima Sugar Industry Branch of the Kagoshima Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station, and a dam for irrigating the sugarcane fields.
