Busbecq, OGde (English spelling) BusbecqOGde

… [Nakajikazu]
[history]
The name tulip is said to be derived from the Turkish word tülbend (meaning muslin, gauze, or a turban made from these), due to the similar shape of the flower. It was probably brought to Italy in the 12th century by the Crusaders, but the oldest recorded example is of tulips brought to Vienna in 1554 by Ogde Busbecq (1522-92), the Austrian ambassador to Turkey. However, it was the Swiss naturalist Gessner who brought tulips to the world in 1561, at the request of the Fugger family, transplanted bulbs to Augsburg, and described them in detail with illustrations in his Deutsche Botaniker Deutsche Botaniker (1561).

 チューリップの名はトルコ語のtülbend(モスリン,ガーゼ,転じてそれらを用いたターバンの意)から派生したもので,花の形状が類似していたためといわれる。 …
