Volksgesang

...A term and concept that originated in Europe, and is now used in the Americas and in various parts of Asia, including Japan. The term folk song (Volkslied or Volksgesang in German, folksong in English) originally referred to songs, but it was sometimes used to refer to musical instruments and dances as well. However, in this article, we will limit folk song to vocal music, and in order to include instrumental folk songs, we will use the term Volksmusik (German) or folk music.
