Gas absorption

This is the phenomenon in which gas molecules move across an interface into the liquid or solid phase they are in contact with. The phenomenon in which a gas is absorbed into a solid is sometimes called occlusion. The phenomenon in which a gas is held near the phase interface is called adsorption, which is distinct from absorption. The absorption phenomenon in which gas molecules move into a liquid phase can be used to separate components in a gas mixture. In chemical engineering, this separation process is called gas absorption, or simply gas absorption. Gas absorption can be classified into physical absorption, in which gas molecules dissolve in a liquid, and chemical absorption or reactive absorption, in which a chemical reaction occurs with a reactive component in the liquid.

ガス分子がそれと接する液相または固相の内部に界面を越えて移動する現象をいう。気体が固体内に吸収される現象を吸蔵ということもある。また，相界面近傍に保持される現象を吸着といい，吸収とは区別する。　ガス分子が液相中に移動する吸収現象を利用して，気体混合物中の成分の分離を行うことができる。化学工学では，この分離操作をガス吸収操作，または単にガス吸収という。ガス吸収には，ガス分子が液体中に溶解する物理吸収と液体中の反応成分と化学反応を生じる化学吸収または反応吸収とがある。
