A modified Japanese book format in which the top, bottom and left and right dimensions are almost the same. The size varies depending on the size of the paper. If the paper is cut vertically (along the short side) into three pieces and folded in half, it becomes a square-shaped book, which is called a mutsuhan book. If the paper is cut horizontally into half or three pieces and folded in half, it becomes a wide book, which is called a yokohon, and a yokohon that is even shorter in top and bottom is called a makurahon.
