A Sunni Islamic school of law named after Malik ibn Anas. After the Shafi'i school was established as a school of law not tied to any particular region, the early Medina school of law, like the Hanafi school, absorbed the Mecca school and gradually dissolved to become the Maliki school. It was introduced early on to Upper Egypt, North Africa, and the Iberian Peninsula, and later spread from North Africa to various parts of inland Africa, and in the Arabian Peninsula it is practiced in parts of the eastern coastal areas where the influence of Wahhabism and Ibadiyya did not reach.
