Canterbury Plains - Canterbury Heiya (English spelling)
The largest plain on the east coast of the central part of the South Island of New Zealand. It is one of the major agricultural and livestock regions, and is the main part of the Canterbury region. Its main industries are mixed farming and extensive sheep farming. Its main products are wool, cereals, and fodder crops. The population is concentrated in a narrow coastal area, and cities such as Christchurch, Ashburton, and Timaru are located there. Dairy farming is also well developed in the surrounding areas.
