Natural history

Japanese: 自然誌 - しぜんし（英語表記）natural history

It is a compilation that comprehensively describes animals, plants, minerals, and more broadly, celestial bodies, weather, geography, and inhabitants of nature, and is also called a "natural history." Natural history means "a record about nature," but in China, "zhi" is also written as "zhi," and since the "Book of Han," it has been called "Tenwenzhi," "Geography," "Food and Beverages," and so on. It is sometimes translated as "natural history," but in this case, "history" means "story," just like "story," and natural history that deals with nature historically did not exist until the 18th century.

自然の動物，植物，鉱物，また広くは天体，気象，地理や住民についても，網羅的に記載した編纂物を言い，〈博物誌〉とも呼ばれる。自然誌は〈自然について誌したもの〉という意味であるが，中国では誌を〈志〉とも書き，《漢書》以来〈天文志〉〈地理志〉〈食貨志〉などと呼ばれていた。〈自然史〉と訳されることもあるが，ここでのhistoryはstoryと同じ〈物語〉の意で，自然を歴史的に扱った自然史は18世紀までなかった。
