In Trebenište, north of Lake Ohrid in southern Macedonia, and Novi Pazar in southern Serbia, metalwork and other works showing the influence of Greek Archaic art were excavated, attesting to the influence of Greek culture inland, prior to the founding of Greek colonies on the Adriatic coast, such as Hērakleia (now Bitola, southern Macedonia) and Tragourion (now Trogir, southern Dalmatia), by King Philip II of Macedonia.
