Mayemir Culture - Mayemir Culture (English spelling)

A culture found in southeastern Russia, from the Altai mountain region of southern Siberia to eastern Kazakhstan. It is divided into an early period (7th to 6th centuries BC) and a late period (5th to 4th centuries BC). The early period has many similarities with the Tagar culture of Minusinsk, but the practice of burying horses in tombs is Altaic and coincides with the Pazyryk culture. In the late period, iron products such as the Scythian-style Akinakes-type iron dagger (a double-edged dagger with a heart-shaped tsuba) appear. There is much disagreement as to whether this culture should be considered unique, with some theories including the late period as part of the Pazyryk culture and others including both the early and late periods as part of the Pazyryk culture.
