Betpak‐dala (English spelling)

Japanese: ベトパク･ダラ（英語表記）Betpak‐dala

Grassland in the south-central part of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Central Asia. In Kazakh it means "Shameless Plain". In Russian it is called "Golodnaya steppe' (Hunger steppe)". There is also a region of the same name in the Republic of Uzbekistan, and when distinguishing it, it is called "Severnaya Golodnaya steppe'". It is bordered to the east by Lake Balkhash and the Kazakh Plateau, and to the west by the Suenashi River in Sarisu. Its area is about 75,000 km2.

中央アジア，カザフスタン共和国中央南部の草原。カザフ語で〈恥知らずの平原〉の意。ロシア語では〈ゴロドナヤ･ステップGolodnaya step’(飢餓のステップ)〉と呼ぶ。ウズベキスタン共和国にも同じ名称の地域があり，これと区別するときには〈北のゴロドナヤ･ステップSevernaya Golodnaya step’〉と呼ぶ。東はバルハシ湖とカザフ台地，西はサリスーの末無川で境される。面積約7万5000km2。
